To spare blood vessels in the user's hands and arms Stihl have employed anti-vibration dampers in the engine to reduce vibrations in the handles to safe levels. A compensator keeps cutting power constant by monitoring the condition of the air filter and regulating the flow of fuel into the carburettor. When the filter starts to become clogged the compensator reduces the amount of fuel delivered into the carburettor to maintain a healthy fuel-air mixture for combustion. There will only be a significant drop in power when a filter cleaning is vital. To enhance the performance of the Stihl easy start technology, the Stihl MS261VW chainsaws feature a decompression valve to reduce compression pressure when starting, as well as the effort needed to pull the starter rope. Semi-automatic the valve must be pressed in before starting, but, will return automatically once the engine is engaged. ElastoStart diverts the compression shock, which occurs when starting the engine, away from the users joints and muscles and through an elastic or rubber element in the starter handle. Ematic chain lubrication, when used with an oilomatic chain, ensures every drop of oil finds it's way to where it is needed to provide maximum lubrication, longer wear and fuel consumption of up to 50% less than conventional methods. A side tensioner allows the user to alter the set-up of the bar and chain without needing to touch the sharp chain. The Stihl MS261VW chainsaws also feature a single lever master control which contains all of the important functions such as the start, choke, throttle and stop.
