This powerful professional chainsaw is designed for heavy duty use in extreme conditions. The high engine power and relatively low weight makes it ideal for harvesting heavy timber. Extremely robust and hard wearing the Stihl MS660 chainsaws feature protection against intense vibrations with dampers in the engine reducing engine oscillations, hence minimising vibrations through the handle. This protects the user's hands and arms from the effect intense vibrations can have on blood vessels in the long term. A compensator monitors the combustion mixture to ensure the fuel-air ratio remains constant. The compensator reduces the fuel flowing into the carburettor when the air filter becomes clogged to prevent the mixture becoming too fuel rich. This maintains engine power for optimum cutting performance. The engine power will only decrease when a filter cleaning is required. A decompression valve can be engaged manually before starting to reduce compression pressure in the engine and reduce the force required to pull the starter cord. Semi-automatic the valve returns to it's closed position after starting. To make starting more comfortable the Stihl MS660 chainsaws are equipped with ElastoStart to take the compression shock through a rubber or elastic element to stop it being transferred through the user's muscles and joints. Ematic chain lubrication offers the advantages of maximum lubrication and longer wear while keeping oil consumption up to 50% lower than other conventional lubrication techniques. A side chain tensioner is housed under the sprocket cover and enables the user to quickly adjust the tension with a tensioning screw which eliminates the need to come into contact with the sharp saw chain. The Stihl MS660 chainsaws also feature a single lever master control which allows all of the major functions to be controlled via a single handle.
