A lightweight long-reach hedge trimmer from STIHL
STIHL’s HLA 56 long reach hedge trimmer is battery-operated and is part of their versatile AK System, which utilises one interchangeable battery for a whole range of garden power tools. The long-reach hedge trimmer allows for the cutting and maintenance of taller shrubs and hedges in domestic gardens. The head can be adjusted from -45º to +90º for trimming the majority of hedges with ease.
Not just your ordinary hedge trimmer blade
The double-sided 45 cm blade is diamond ground for a precise cut every time. It also boasts a tip protector to prevent damage when trimming near the ground and along walls, as well as integrated cut protection to reduce the risk of the blade making contact with the users leg.
Despite its length, transport and storage is a breeze
Although the machine is 210 cm long when built, it can easily be split down enabling you to transport and store the hedge trimmer away with ease. A wall bracket is included to hold the 3 individual pieces, for a convenient storage solution.
The promotional kit contains everything you need to get started
For a limited time only, the promotional kit contains a second battery for half price, and is fully comprised of the shell, 2 AK 20 batteries, and an AL 101 charger. The AK 20 battery will run for up to 100 minutes or cut up to 380m2 of hedge with one full charge. The recommended charger is the AL 101 standard charger, which will restore the AK 20 battery to full power in 180 minutes, and has a useful LED indicator, a velcro strap for containing the electrical cable, and it can be wall mounted if desired.

Feels like excellent quality, which I would expect from a relatively high cost product from Stihl. Battery Life appears to be very good.
I personally find it heavy though, wouldn’t want to use for any length of time.
I note you can buy an extender for even higher hedges but surprised you can’t actually shorten the length by making the battery part of the product shorter. This would make it more durable and lighter when cutting short medium and high hedges.

Excellent hedge trimmer, just slices through the hedge. It’s a bit on the heavy side, so I would recommend buying the harness to take some of the weight off your arms.

I’ve used Stihl for I don’t know how many years (chainsaws,hedge trimmer’s), all 2 stroke! Battery? Well, it’s Stihl! Reliable! Does what it says on the tin!…don’t expect petrol driven power! Used accordingly…..faultless! Buy the harness..it can only be helpful!

I haven’t used the trimmer properly yet as birds are still nesting in the hedge but I have charged the battery and given it a trial run. It certainly gives me much more access to the top of the hedge and I’m very pleaded with the cut and weight of the trimmer. No leads to get in the way and a second battery so the job can be carried on when the first runs down. Just what I was looking for.

Used for over 3 hours cutting back really overgrown garden. If trying to cut through extra thick stems, go gradually rather than forcing it. Battery lasted throughout. Made the job so much easier. Recommend this product, almost purchased a much cheaper trimmer, but glad I paid more for a quality tool.

Cuts well and is very handy for those difficult to reach parts of the hedge. It is, I found, quite heavy to use because of its length and so I wouldn’t want to use it for very long at a time. On that basis, I am not really sure you actually need two batteries, as I certainly ran out of steam before the first battery did!

Thanks to this trimmer, I have finally been able to get at all the difficult places relatively easily. It is a well balanced machine, but even though it is not that heavy, needs a harness if using it for any length of time. Only negative is that it sounds tinny and not very powerful which is surprising given that it is a professional tool. However, that aside it does the job.
