Introducing the STIHL HLA 66 Cordless Long-Reach Hedge Trimmer, an essential tool for professional garden maintenance, grounds keeping, and landscaping. It provides an unrivaled combination of power, balance, and cutting excellence whether trimming tall hedges or intricate topiary. This individual tool comes without a battery and charger.
With its 115° (-45° to +70°) adjustable head, the STIHL HLA 66 offers excellent cutting performance, making it perfect for tall, wide hedges and ground-covering plants. It can also be folded parallel for easy transport. The double-sided 50 cm / 20 inch blade length is ideal for both side and top growth trimming.
The STIHL HLA 66 features an ergonomic control handle with a self-resetting Ergo lever, suitable for both left and right-handed users. This, combined with its new stylish design, ensures less fatigue during operation. The long-reach hedge trimmer is highly manoeuvrable, even in tight spots, thanks to its loop handle. The battery placement in the shaft ensures perfect balance for fatigue-free work.
Equipped with a brushless electric motor (EC), the STIHL HLA 66 is energy efficient and practically maintenance-free. Its motor adjusts the engine load for optimal performance.
Rated IPX4, the STIHL HLA 66 is capable of working in all weather conditions, making it a versatile choice for any gardening task.
The trimmer includes a blade guard for protection and safe transport, and a tip protector to prevent wear and tear during ground contact.
The HLA 66 is a part of STIHL’s AP System range of cordless hedge trimmers. Sold here as the shell only without a battery and charger, you can use any existing AP battery and compatible AL charger from your fleet to run it. Otherwise, you will need to purchase these separately. The recommended battery is the AP 200 for optimal performance.

STIHL HLA66 top tips
1) When you have finished using the hedge trimmer, remove the battery and clean the machine using a soft damp cloth. Spraying a resin solvent onto the blades will help to keep them from sticking together.
2) Never use a damp or wet battery, and avoid using it in extreme temperatures.
3) Store the hedge trimmer in a clean and dry area, away from children, and keep the battery within a temperature range of 0-50ºC and with around 40-60% battery charge (2 green LED lights).

The HLA 66 offers a more powerful motor and longer reach for professional or more demanding tasks, while the HLA 56 is designed for lighter, domestic use with a slightly shorter reach and less power, making it more suitable for home gardeners.

A. Resin solvent dissolves rust and sap whilst also providing blade protection against corrosion. A battery protection foot keeps the battery off the ground during downtime, and also doubles up as an additional handle for short-term shaft extension. A catcher plate facilitates easier clean-up when trimming side and top growth.

Unfortunately the HLA 66 hedge cutter i was sent was not fit for purpose – it cut out intermittently and wasn’t capable of any sustained hedge cutting. It is as though there is a loose connection. It is going back to Ron Smith for replacement or refund. A useless piece of so-called professional kit.

First time ive bought a Stihl product and im pleased i did. Its excellent quality and the long reach coupled with the blade angle adjustment makes the job easier. Ive always used a corded product in the past but the long lasting battery pack on this model makes the job quicker and the finish is better. Would reccomend.
