A lightweight, comfortable & easy hedge trimmer to operate.
The HS 46 C-E is actually STIHL’s lightest petrol hedge trimmer in the range, and, when combined with a host of ease-of-use features to ensure operator comfort, as well as a powerful 2-MIX engine, it is a fantastic machine for all-round domestic use. This model has a 22 inch / 55 cm blade.
Easy to start & operate
This machine comes with STIHL’s ErgoStart technology – a genuine advance in easy starting. ErgoStart cuts the effort required to start the tool by half, while the starter cord can be pulled at just a third of the normal force. Just two fingers and a gentle pull is all it takes to get the machine running. An electronic ignition module also helps with starting, increasing the reliability of the start as well as allowing for trouble-free running. In addition, a manual fuel pump is available to deliver fuel to the carburettor at the touch of a button, reducing the number of starting pulls required after extended breaks in operation.
Powerful & efficient engine
STIHL’s 2-MIX engines were specially designed for their new generation of hedge trimmers. They combine low emissions and fuel consumption with a light weight and excellent acceleration. They have sufficient power reserves to allow you to cut thicker vegetation without difficulty. Special filler caps for fuel and oil can be opened quickly and easily without tools, and a long-life air filter system ensures longer cleaning intervals and better protection of the engine.
Comfortable control
With an anti-vibration system built in, the oscillations from the engine are dampened, significantly reducing the vibrations at the handles. This is combined with single lever operation, as the choke, start gas, operating position and stop functions are integrated onto one operating element – a worldwide first for a petrol hedge trimmer. The stop button has single lever operation and, after pressing it, the shaft jumps back to position I. The trimmer can be started again immediately.

I went to try my Stihl HS46 beyond the 14 day period after delivery, and unfortunately it didn’t start. No fuel gets sucked into the primer bulb. Drained the tank once and tried again and still nothing. Now I’ve got to contact an authorised Stihl dealer to get them to look at it under warranty. 14 days is a short period for testing such an item for a fault at home, in my opinion.
