About the STIHL HS 82 RC-E Petrol Hedge Trimmer
STIHL HS 82 RC-E: Built for High-Volume Work, Designed for Comfortable Use
When it comes to shaping and managing dense, established hedges, the STIHL HS82RC E offers exactly what professional users demand—power, precision, and a smart ergonomic design. When you buy this premium hedge trimmer, you’ll be getting a tool that’s made for large-scale trimming without compromising on comfort or control. Ideal for seasonal clearing, heavy pruning, or detailed hedge work on larger estates, it has the muscle and manoeuvrability to keep pace with demanding workloads day in, day out.
Powerful 2-MIX Engine with Low Emissions
The STIHL HS82RC E is fitted with a high-performance 22.7cc 2-MIX engine, delivering an output of 0.7kW (1hp) at 3,200rpm. This engine runs on a petrol and oil mixture and complies with strict EU Stage V emission standards, so it’s clean burning and fuel-efficient.
Despite its power, this 2-MIX engine is very low maintenance and surprisingly quiet for its class, producing a sound pressure level of just 94 dB(A) at the operator’s ear.
Built for Large Volume Cutting
The HS 82 RC-E has been specially designed for high-output work. Featuring a tooth spacing of 38mm with deep profile, it handles thicker branches with ease, making it a great hedge trimmer for clearing back overgrowth and tackling dense shrubbery. The gearing system delivers high cutting power at a moderate stroke rate, so you can work quickly without sacrificing the quality of the finish.
Two Blade Options for Flexible Use
You can choose between two blade sizes depending on your needs. The STIHL HS 82 RC E 24 comes with a 60cm (24-inch) blade, offering a more compact option for tighter spaces. For broader hedges or higher coverage in fewer passes, the STIHL HS 82 RC E 30 with its 75cm (30-inch) blade is ideal. Both blades use double-sided, reciprocating cutting teeth designed for fast, clean results and long-lasting sharpness.
Effortless Starting, Every Time
Starting the HS 82 RC-E is made easy with STIHL’s ErgoStart system. A smooth, even pull on the cord is all that’s needed, thanks to an internal spring that reduces resistance and the required pull speed. A reliable electronic ignition system and manual fuel pump further ensure efficient starting and smooth running, even on cold mornings or after periods of inactivity.
Designed for Professional Comfort
The HS 82 RC-E includes a rotatable multi-function handle that can turn 90 degrees in either direction. This reduces strain on the wrists and makes vertical and angled cutting far more comfortable, especially during prolonged periods of work. Whether you’re left- or right-handed, this hedge trimmer seamlessly adjusts to suit your working position.
Combined with STIHL’s anti-vibration system, which keeps feedback to your hands and arms minimal, the result is a machine that’s genuinely enjoyable to use. Vibration levels are measured at 2.5 to 2.6 m/s² on the left and 2.6 to 2.9 m/s² on the right.
Further Practical Features and Optional Extras
The STIHL HS82RC E includes a bayonet-style tool-free cap for easy refuelling, hanging eyelet for secure storage, and long-life air filter system to reduce service intervals. With a dry weight of just 5.7kg including the blade, this hedge trimmer remains well-balanced and light enough to use for extended periods of time.
You can buy a number of optional extras for use with this machine, including STIHL’s Smart Connector, tip protectors, service kits, and protective gear for professional-grade hedge maintenance.

Not used yet but speaks quality and Stihl reputation
Bill Burt –
Bought this to replace a Stihl HS45. It’s slightly heavier but far more robust and the swivel handle is a useful option to have. The longer blade is excellent for those hard to reach places I found I had with the HS45. It’s a fair bit more expensive but I guess you get what you pay for.
I can’t fault the machine, which starts far easier than my last one. Delivered quickly and when expected.

Limited use so far but obviously well made with many useful, non-gimmicky features.
