To scarify or dethatch a small, irregularly shaped lawn, up to 250 m² in size, the STIHL RLA 240 is a great choice of garden machine. And because this cordless scarifier is powered by a 36 v lithium-ion battery, it produces zero emissions and gives you complete freedom of movement, without the hassle of electrical leads.

Overview of the STIHL RLA 240 Cordless Scarifier

Part of STIHL’s AK System of cordless power tools, the STIHL RLA 240 Cordless Lawn Scarifier comes with fixed scarifying blades (for aerating the soil) and a spring tine roller attachment (for combing the thatch out of the lawn). It features a power rating of 900 w and working width of 34 cm (13.4 inches), so provides outstanding manoeuvrability in confined spaces.

This scarifier’s guaranteed sound power level is 94 dB(A), with a sound pressure level at the operating position of just 77 dB(A), making the RLA 240 an excellent choice of scarifier for noise sensitive areas.

Sturdy Housing

With a weight of 14 kg (excluding battery), this STIHL cordless scarifier is built with polymer housing, which is light in weight but very strong and durable. It provides the engine with effective protection from accidental impacts, various types of spillage and UV rays.

High-Traction Wheels

The wheels are high quality too. They provide superb levels of both stability and traction, so you remain in complete control of the machine as you effortlessly guide it around the lawn.

The Spring Tine Roller Attachment

As mentioned above, the RLA 240 Cordless Lawn Scarifier is supplied with a spring tine roller attachment. This allows you to comb the moss and thatch from the surface of your lawn, without making cuts in the soil. By following a few straightforward steps, it’s quick and easy to install.

Adjustable Working Depth

The working height of the scarifier’s attachments can be adjusted from 7.5 mm above ground level to 9.5 mm below the surface of the soil, depending on your lawncare requirements.

A Spacious Collector Box

As the STIHL Scarifier RLA 240 comes with a generous 50-litre collector box, you can spend more time scarifying and less time having to empty the box’s contents.

Transport and Storage

The STIHL RLA 240 Battery Scarifier includes two practical handles, which are positioned over the centre of the unit. They allow you to carry the scarifier in an upright position, to and from its place of storage, avoiding awkward tilting causing damage to the machine.

When not in use, the scarifier’s handlebar can be folded down to save on storage space.

Recommended Battery and Charger

STIHL recommends using one of their AK 20 batteries to power this cordless scarifier. This should provide sufficient power for the machine to scarify a lawn up to 250 m² in size on a single charge.

The recommended AL 101 charger will restore a STIHL AK 20 battery to full power (from 0 – 100 %) in 180 minutes.
