About the STIHL SHA 56 Cordless Handheld Leaf Blower & Vacuum Shredder (Shell Only)
STIHL’s first battery-powered combined leaf blower and vacuum shredder, the SHA56 is ergonomically designed, expertly built, and comes with some highly practical features to help you tidy up your garden in no time at all.
This superb two-in-one tool will quickly blow leaves, hedge trimmings and other garden debris into neat piles, then effortlessly suck and shred them up. Your dramatically reduced garden waste can then go straight from collection bag to bin or be used as compost/ mulch.
(Please note that as this product is shell only, it does not come with a battery or charger. These must be purchased separately.)
Overview of the STIHL SHA 56 Cordless Vacuum Shredder and Blower
Designed for domestic use, this cordless vacuum shredder and blower weighs 3.2kg (without the battery) and comes with a 40-litre collection bag. It has a blowing force of 8 N, maximum air speed of 56 m/s, and sound power level of 94 dB(A).
Lightweight but powerful, the STIHL SHA 56 is also equipped with variable speed control, allowing you to adjust the blowing and suction power to match your exact requirements.
Converting from Blower to Shredder
The STIHL SHA 56 can be converted from blower to shredder in no time at all, using a simple ‘click and twist’ mechanism, without the need for tools. Simply click the appropriate tubes into place, turn the rotatable handle, and you’re good to go.
The SHA 56’s Metal Shredder Blade
The STIHL SHA56 is fitted with a strong, sharp metal blade, which makes very short work of shredding leaves and hedge clippings. This blade is easy to access when you need to give it a clean.
The Adjustable Blower Tube
You can adjust the length of the SHA56’s blower tube to suit your own height. This ensures that you’re always working comfortably, just the right distance from the ground, resulting in the machine consistently achieving optimal levels of performance.
An Ergonomically Designed Vacuum Shredder
For your added comfort, the SHA 56 features an ergonomically designed handle and padded shoulder strap, which you can easily adjust for the perfect fit.
Also, the 40-litre collection bag is fitted with a long zip cord, so it’s exceptionally simple to open and empty – once again, making your life easier.
The STIHL Warranty
STIHL is amongst the world’s oldest and most-trusted manufacturers of handheld power equipment, making it a go-to brand for cordless blowers and vacuum shredders. A reassuring 2-year domestic warranty is included as standard with this SHA 56 STIHL model.
Recommended Battery and Charger
As this version of the STIHL SHA 56 Shredder and Blower is ‘shell only’, it does not include a battery or charger, which must both be purchased separately.
We recommend using a STIHL AK 20 battery with this product. On a full charge, it has a working time of up to 25 minutes, which should be enough to clear 75 m² of ground in suction mode or 600 m² in blowing mode.
Using an AL 101 charger, a STIHL AK 20 battery takes 180 minutes to fully charge, reaching an 80% charge in just 135 minutes.
Once purchased, both battery and charger can be used with other STIHL AK System tools too.

Safety Advice
STIHL recommends wearing snugly fitting clothes, goggles, gloves and sturdy footwear when operating this vacuum shredder/ blower.
STIHL SHA 56 Top Tips
1) When you’ve finished using the SHA 56, remove the battery, and clean the shell using a damp cloth or a soft brush. Store the SHA 56 in a clean and dry area, and out of the reach of children.
2) Clearing wet leaves requires more effort and power compared to dry leaves, leading to a longer time to clean a smaller area. For efficiency and to extend your battery’s life, it’s advisable to wait for a dry day to tidy your garden.
3) Rather than scattering leaves across the garden with the SHA 56 set to blower mode, direct them into a corner to keep them contained. This strategy simplifies the process of vacuuming them up when switching the SHA 56 to suction mode.
STIHL SHA 56 FAQs
Q. How long does the battery last, and how long does it take to charge?
A. The run time and charge time will depend on the battery and charger used (see above for full details). The recommended AK 20 battery will provide up to 25 minutes working time (equivalent to 75 m2 in suction mode or 600 m2 in blowing mode). The AL 101 and AL 301 chargers will restore the AK 20 battery 0-100% in 180 minutes and 50 minutes respectively.
Q. What size garden will the SHA56 maintain?
A. The SHA 56 is ideal for medium to large gardens, significantly reducing the time taken to clear up leaves and other debris by hand.
Q. What should I wear when using the SHA 56?
A. We recommend snug-fitting clothing, goggles, gloves, and sturdy boots.

Great service from GMD and stihl products are fantastic quality
Philip Vaughan –
Excellent value for money
Stephen Critchley –
Well-made item (disappointingly, in China) as expected from Stihl. Powerful blower performance and adequate vacuuming but feel shredding is a bit lacking compared to previous petrol-powered tool. Used with AK30 battery I already had but soon seems to need recharging, often before I’ve finished, so a second battery may be needed depending on the type and size of garden.
Ian Hunt –
Excellent piece of kit that does the job. Have used the ‘vac’ yet but the blower made quick work of debris behind plants and on pathways.
ihd555 –
This blower vac is awesome for the money this saves my back no need to to sweep leaves anymore.

Only used it the once but was very pleased with its performance. Used both the blower and vacuum parts. Not as heavy to handle as I first thought.
F Rose –
Its a very robust machine and is a bit on the heavy side. I certainly need the shoulder strap. It picks up wet leaves easily and is far superior to my previous Mountfield machine.
It certainly is a great product.
Guy Griffiths –
An excellent product at a good price. For me the vacuum is working very well although the machine is heavy and I certainly need to use the shoulder strap.
Clive Webb –
Enough power to pick up wet leaves. So far, so good.
Graham Wood –
The SHA 56 does all I expected it to – it blows leaves and needles, and will suck in and shred leaves – it won’t shred (pine) needles however as the tube gets blocked quite quickly if I try to do that. So I need something else to shred these needles!
The blower is very strong on dry leaves and needles – I’ve yet to try on wet leaves.
I chose the AK20 battery. I’ve found that I need the shoulder strap slung on the opposite side to a dodgy hip when shredding, and will probably need to do the same for the blowing mode (although it is light enough to hold and operate with one hand but gave me hip niggle after 20 minutes ).
Altogether a quality product and a lot less noisy and more reliable than a temperamental petrol blower that will now be sold on!

I have two apple trees and bamboo that continuously drop leaves and have been waiting for this to come back into stock. Whilst quite expensive for me, you certainly get what you pay for. The vacuum is all I use and this is much better than I expected. It picks up wet leaves easily. It also picks up all the fine pieces of bamboo leaves that get stuck in the artificial grass that my old vacuum didn’t. I wasn’t sure a battery powered vacuum would compete with a 240v and thought I may have a trade off between convenience and power but there is no compromise. It is much more powerful and much more convenient.
The convenience of just giving the garden a quick vacuum without getting an extension lead and then getting caught in the cable is perfect. Noise level is better than my old corded electric too.
Battery I have – Stihl AK20 lasts about 25 mins (more than it should) which is enough to clear my garden and I wouldn’t want to do more than that much vacuuming at any one time anyway. Battery goes back on charge after use , ready for next time. You can always buy 2 batteries if needed or get the more powerful one.
This is a great product

Great product
Keith Collins –
Just what I needed, powerful and chops leaves up very small, good for composting.
Christine Millard –
It’s bigger, heavier and more powerful than I expected – so pleased with how well it performs. Very much up to the job of vacuuming and shredding and bag has good capacity. Only blip has been accidentally sucking up a tough pine cone, which it didn’t like, but that was my fault
David C –
Excellent bit of kit! Quiet and shreds whilst using as a vacuum with good suction. Usefully uses the same battery as my chainsaw which saves on cost too!
John Johnstone –
Good sturdy product with powerful motor
However the shredding blade seems ineffective when in vacuum mode which I find disappointing.
James G –
Worth the wait
