Really like the mower. Only used a couple of times as yet. No issues so far. After putting the engine oil and petrol in; mower started immediately. Relatively light so pretty manoeuvrable compared to some I’ve used. Grassbox seems a pretty good size. ( This has to be assembled as it comes in a couple of parts. )
Seemed to cut the grass pretty nice . Pleased with my choice of mower.🙂

Replaced older larger Mountfield mower with SP42. Assembly reasonably straightforward but QR code in instructions for engine manual did not work, so guessed at method and amount to fill engine oil. Cuts grass ok with good range of height adjustment but there is a fault. If lower height cut selected, machine will jump into highest height setting as soon as drive is engaged. Mower is now at local Mountfield dealer for repairs after only 3 weeks of ownership. Didn’t like their sniffy attitude as I didn’t buy the mower from them. Garden Machinery Direct however are a good supplier, good price and delivered within a few days. Shame they can’t fix my faulty mower.

Searched high and low for a replacement for my Mountfield SP470 and this came the closest. Searched again for a competitive price and Garden Machinery Direct came out top. Was a little worried at first as my delivery was cancelled but after calling this family firm I was assured that this was due to the size of the package and an alternative carrier had to be used. This is an excellent machine started first time and has added mulching function. It also came with a free bottle of engine oil. Take your time when assembling. First class product and first class company who supplied it.

Figuring out how to assemble the machine was a bit of a challenge. The pictures showing the procedure aren’t that great and didn’t completely match reality. The mower had a poorly machined fixing point on one side where the handle locates. It can be lived with but means the handle is potentially wobbly. Otherwise, a sturdy mower that started first time and does the job!
