Ideal for pruning, crown reduction, and timber processing, as well as applications in drywall construction, roofing work, and the woodworking industry, this versatile mini chainsaw is suited for work both on the ground and in aerial environments, providing reliable performance in any setting.

(Please note this product can be bought as the shell only, where it does not come with a battery or charger, or as a ‘kit’ where its comes with two batteries and a dual battery charger.)

The GTA 40 combines advanced battery technology with ergonomic design, making it both powerful and easy to handle. It features a 15 cm (6-inch) light guide bar and a ¼” PM3 saw chain, which deliver smooth and controlled cutting action, allowing for precise cuts on branches up to 10 cm in diameter.

Powered by two AS 2 batteries from the STIHL AS System, this pruner provides the flexibility to interchange batteries with other tools in the range. This means users with multiple STIHL AS battery tools can benefit from extended operating times without the need for different batteries and chargers.

High-Performance Battery-Driven Technology

Engineered with a powerful EC motor, the GTA40 ensures constant power output from start to finish, providing reliable performance that doesn’t diminish as the battery charge decreases. With a runtime of up to 50 minutes on a full charge, this pruner is capable of making approximately 190 cuts on branches 5 cm in diameter.

This runtime and cut capacity make it ideal for sustained professional use, while the variable chain speed gives the user precise control, allowing for adjustments based on the specific task at hand. The two AS 2 batteries work in parallel to ensure consistent power, and the LED charge-level indicator on the top of the tool keeps you informed of remaining battery life, helping you plan and manage your tasks more efficiently.

Weighing in at just 1.8 kg (including batteries), the GTA 40’s ergonomic design provides comfort even during extended use. The dual-sided rocker switch allows for ambidextrous use, enabling both right and left-handed users to comfortably control the pruner. The tool also comes with an attachment ring, allowing you to secure it on a belt or climbing harness for easy access when working at height. For even greater convenience, a dedicated GTA 40 holster is available (sold separately), designed to keep the tool within reach.

Kit Options

The STIHL GTA40 Cordless Pruner is available in two configurations to suit different needs.

Shell Only: This option includes the pruner with its bar and chain, (hard case not included). Please note that batteries, charger and hard case are not included in this option. This is ideal for users who already own STIHL tools from the AS System, as you can use your existing AS 2 batteries with the pruner.

Complete Kit: The kit option provides everything you need to get started right away. Along with the pruner, bar, chain, hard case, and carry ring, this kit includes 2 x AS 2 batteries and a dual battery charger, allowing for extended working time and convenient charging.

These kit options make it easy to choose the right package whether you are adding to your STIHL AS System collection or starting fresh with a complete setup.
