STIHL MS 171 Petrol Chainsaw

The MS 171 is a chainsaw is a chainsaw suited to garden maintenance and cutting firewood. It is ideal for first-time domestic users and boasts more power than the MS 170; a STIHL 2-MIX 31.8 cm3 petrol engine provides 1.3 kW power to the chainsaw. The MS 171 can be purchased with a recommended 14 inch / 35 cm bar and chain, or with a 12 inch / 30 cm bar and chain;  this model uses a 3/8 inch Pico Micro Mini 3 chain.

Perhaps most importantly, it has anti-vibration technology that dampens the engines oscillations to significantly reduce vibrations at the units handles. With single-lever master control, where all the important functions like start, choke, throttle and stop are positioned together on a single lever, using the machine is also extremely simple. A side chain tensioner removes the need for contact with the sharp saw chain, and tool-free filler caps on the fuel and oil tanks mean you can rely on easy opening and locking without the need for tools.

Designed to be robust and long-lasting

Thanks to the Ematic chain lubrication system that this saw relies on, pinpoint lubrication of the saw chain links and guide bar rails is ensured; this means longer wear and up to 50% less bar oil consumption than conventional methods of chain lubrication. This machine also benefits from a long-life air filtration system, which achieves perceptibly longer filter life compared to conventional systems.

Powerful performance

Advanced combustion technology swirls the fuel-air mix before ignition, achieving optimum combustion and highly efficient performance. This results in lower fuel consumption and high torque across a broad rpm range. A compensator in the carburettor works to keep the fuel/air ratio constant, which in turn maintains the engine power so that the air filter doesn’t need to be cleaned until an appreciable drop in power occurs.
